THE FOUNDATION

Ke Ala Nu'ukia (Mission Statement):

To encourage positive values in Hawai'i's youth through the "Martial Arts Way".

In Hawai'i we are priviledged to be a part of a culture rich with the Hawai'ian values of akahi (Kindness), ha'aha'a (Humility), ho'okipa (Giving/Respect), o'hana (Family), alulike (Teamwork), and ahonui (Patience/Perserverance). PHYF believes that these values are what help to make our community strong, resilient, and what sets us apart from other paces in the world. We need to take care of and continue to instill these values in the children, for without them, we have no future.

Through our shared advocacy on behalf of youth, it is our goal to help guide at risk youth to better paths, giving them the tools they need, taught through a martial arts worldview, while maintaining and encouranging Hawaiian values. PHFY seeks to show youth, through the martial arts way, that true strength comes through the mind, not from the fist. The mental and physical discipline it takes to suceed is less about being tough and more about overcoming adversity.

PHYF seeks to improve the lives of youth in at risk, high risk communities and environments through mentoring, commitment and advocacy learned through the study of martial arts.

PHYF is based in Hilo, Hawai'i and provides a "client centered" approach to encourage positive youth development, build resiliency in youth, foster maximum self determination, and provide opportunities and reward systems that encourage goal setting behaviors. PHYF offers a wide range of opportunities and experiences for youth in order to prevent drug abuse and strengthen family relationships. The PHYF staff and instructors engage with and develope positive connections with youth. PHYF is committed to the empowerment of youth to help them actualize their potential through the martial arts way.
